报告题目:From Optimal Economic Growth (in Macroeconomics) to Optimal Control (in Mathematics)

报告摘要:Imagine simply that we are considering an economy where the production depends on some basic factors, for examples, Labor and Capital. Assume that the output of the current production is divided into two parts, one for consuming to satisfy our current utility/happiness, and another one for saving to reinvest to the future production. It always happens that more consumption is preferable to less, at any moment of time. However, the more and more consumption at the current time means the less and less saving to reinvest to the future production, resulting in less output and therefore less consumption in the future. So, what could be an optimal consuming/saving policy over time for the economy? This basic problem in the theory of Optimal Economic Growth (OEG) in macroeconomics can be modeled as an optimization problem in infinite-dimensional spaces called Optimal Control. In this talk, we will together look back some milestones in the history of OEG, see how does it look as an OC problem, and update new results and open problems in this direction.

报告人简介:Dr. Vu Thi Huong obtained her Ph.D in 2020 at Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST). Now, She is a postdoc researcher at Hangzhou Dianzi University and a researcher at Department of Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing Institute of Mathematics, VAST. She obtained four certificates of Merit from Director of Institute of Mathematics, VAST, for “Outstanding achievements in research’’ in four years 2017-2020,

A certificate of Merit from Vietnam Women's Union for "Outstanding achievements in research in the field of Mathematics" (2019), the Excellent Poster Award at the Vietnam - USA Joint Mathematical Meeting 2019, a certificate of Merit from the Youth Union of VAST for “Outstanding young scientist 2020, and being selected among 1700 nominations and applications over the world to participate in the Global Young Scientists Summit 2022.
